The Hindu culture believes in starting every important step in life at the "right moment" or auspicious time. Akshaya Tritya is considered to be one of the highly auspicious days to start anything meaningful to see a fruitful completion.
Akshaya Tritya is celebrated on the third day during the month of Vaishaka or Vishaka (April-May). The Sun and the Moon are at its peak brilliance during this period, which is an annual phenomenon. This year, the auspicious day, falls on 26th april, 2020. The combination of Akshaya Tritya along with Rohini Nakshatra, falling on a Sunday is considered to be extremely auspicious.
As per Hindu calendar, there are four days/thithis that are exceptionally favorable because the entire thithi is good for any important undertaking.
a. The starting of Hindu New year (first tithi, of Chaitra month),
b. Vijaya Dashami (tenth tithi of Ashwin month),
c. Akshaya Tritya (third tithis of Vaishakha)
d. Kartika (first tithi of Kartik)
Akshaya Tritya is also known as the birthday of Lord Parashurama, the 10th avataar of Lord Vishnu. This day is also known as "Akha Teej". People offer pooja to Lord Ganesha and Lakshmi, take a holy dip in the river and do charity on this day.
